What a load of Bull Lettings!
Last month, the area of Hertfordshire, including the towns of St Albans and Harpenden had a rather baffling site to be hold outside various houses. Estate agents ‘To Let’ boards had been covered up by black plastic bags which had a logo of a bull’s head printed on.
This left agents confused and very unimpressed at the stealth marketing campaign. The council was informed and the planning enforcement team looked into the Town and County Planning Control of Advertising regulations. Complains were also made to the Police.
It left the area in a state of bemusement, with the only clue being the image of a bull on the plastic bags. The same image was found on a website named bulllettings.com. There was only one page on the website which read, ‘coming soon … no bull, just lettings’, this suggests that Bull Lettings will be opening for business shortly, no doubt they will have a lot of letting agents turned matador’s to contend with.
Bull Lettings has confirmed that they did cover up competitors advertising boards with their logo however, it has also been discovered that they are members of The Property Ombudsman scheme. A spokesman for the Property Ombudsman confirmed that Bull Lettings are members, according to their website list. This has caused a lot of controversy with other agents, complaining to The Property Ombudsman how Bull Lettings remains a member after being reported to the Police.
On the 29th April, Bull Lettings posted a Tweet on their Twitter page which read, ‘Only two more days to go now … eek.’ Although, the launch has now been postponed for another week with the website stating on the 1st May, ‘we need to delay our launch until an udder day.’
Today on the 3rd May, there are four days remaining on Bull Lettings count down clock and The Property Ombudsman has demanded an explanation from them with regards to their marketing campaign which was in breach of Section 4 of The Property Ombudsman Lettings Code of Practice.
What are your thoughts on Bull Lettings advertising campaign? Was it a very clever marketing campaign which has caused a lot of media coverage or do you believe it is an outrage for them to be member of The Property Ombudsman, which is supposed to be an elite group of conduct abiding estate and letting agents?(0) Comments
