Surprise, Surprise! The most expensive street in England revealed
You may have guessed it because, lets face it, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out where the most expensive street in England is going to be located. However, what is interesting is just how expensive the properties actually are on this street and what makes them so expensive.
The street is called Egerton Crescent and is situated in the Royal London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, South West London. Conveniently only a stones throw away from Harrods as well as the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Natural History Museum not forgetting the South Kensington tube station proving that the location is good for both shopping, education and transport.
The research was carried out by Lloyds TSB which calculated the average price of a home on the street is £8.1 million although one of the homes on the street recently sold for £12 million. This is a massive 74 times the price of the average UK home at £160,879. In the top ten list containing the most expensive streets in England, six of them are located in the Royal London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea however, the street that was second on the list is located in Parkside near Wimbledon Common which has an average house price of £5.2 million.
Last years most expensive street, Campden Hill Square has dropped to third place with an average house price of £4.9 million however, according to some analysts the increase in Stamp Duty to 7% for homes worth over £2 million come spring 2013 will cause the red hot London property market to cool off a little. London caused a North South property divide in 2012 with wealthy overseas investors purchasing property in England’s capital city whilst the rest of the country suffered with falling house prices.
