Draculas Castle Is Up For Sale
Bran Castle otherwise known as Dracula’s Castle, has been put on the market. It has been reported that the owner, a Romanian Archduke, is asking for a minimum of £47m for the property.
Sheltered by the Romanian countryside the spectacular fortress is quite the investment with Brasov, the closest town, being situated a few miles away so you are certain to have more than enough peace and quiet meaning you could sleep for thousands of years — or at least get a good lie in!
The Castle attracts a massive 560,000 visitors each year making it the greatest tourist attraction in the eastern European country. These tourists are drawn by the many historical stories featuring the castle, and not just the fictional ones!
The medieval castle has been called home by many, it is currently owned by Britain’s Queen Victoria’s descendants Archduke Dominic and his two sisters. Since it was first built into a fortress by the Teutonic knights many others have inhabited the castle including Saxons, Hungarians and of course it’s most famous (yet fictional) tenant Count Dracula.
In real life it is believed that the castle’s most famous resident was Vlad “The Impaler” Tepes who is also believed to have been the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s character Dracula.
Vlad was a fearsome warrior who was imprisoned in the fifteenth Century in Bran Castle. Vlad was also part of the house of Draculesti which is believed to have inspired Bram Stoker in the 19th to create the famous vampire.
The New York City based firm Herzfeld and Rubin is dealing with the property sale and they are reportedly looking for a buyer who will carry on with the vision of growing and maintaining Romania’s biggest tourist attraction.
It is understood that the government has made an offer on the castle for £47m but the Archduke and his two sisters are looking for other offers.
