Another regeneration project for Liverpool
Plans for a £1.5 billion regeneration scheme for Liverpool’s Kings Dock are in the development stages as part of the next phase of the development that has been taking place across the dock lands. The proposals currently include family homes and restaurants and the project is also said to include an Olympic standard ice rink and an extreme sports complex.
Lime Street has also been included as part of the latest regeneration scheme along with sections of Mount Pleasant. It is hoped that a new music and television venue could be built along with more shops, a cinema, hotel and student accommodation for the mature students of the city.
This regeneration scheme could bring a total of 12,000 jobs to the city in construction industry and the amount of permanent jobs could be around 4,000 as well as protecting another 3,000 jobs. It is thought that these proposals will be in their final stages by the end of 2014 and this is when the planning applications will be submitted to Liverpool City Council.
Mayor Joe Anderson commented on the latest proposed project for the city;
‘Regenerating the city centre is vital but we are also working hard to deliver transformation across Liverpool as a whole – Greater Homer Street, Edge Lane and Anfield are all now seeing significant progress and there will be more to come in the future, with thousands of new and refurbished homes planned city-wide.’
He also commented on how important it is that Lime Street is improved because it is the first part of Liverpool that people see when they step off the train and out of the station. He continued to say that this regeneration project will create thousands of jobs which will secure a future for the city which is one of the key points he proposed when he became the Mayor of Liverpool.
